Description
Apollo Soteria Dimension IR Optical Detector – FL5100‑600APO
The Soteria Dimension IR Optical Detector features an innovative chamberless design and is flush mounted. Unlike standard fire detectors, it uses a new optical sensing technology to detect smoke particles outside the detector housing. A combination of Infra‑Red (IR) LEDs and photo‑diodes identifies smoke particles just below the detector housing and initiates an alarm.
Electrical Description
The Soteria Dimension Optical Detector is designed for connection to a two‑wire loop circuit carrying both data and a 17–35V DC supply. A short‑circuit isolator is integrated into the detector head.
Operation
The detector contains two daylight‑filtered photo‑diodes and three IR emitters positioned at different angles. Various combinations act as smoke sensors and proximity sensors to measure smoke levels and detect any physical obstruction or interference.
As a chamberless detector, an IR LED emits light externally. Smoke particles scatter this light back towards the detector, where it is registered by a photo‑diode.
Two microprocessors control the sensors, managing timing and applying a digital phase‑sensitive detection algorithm to reduce noise and background light effects. Digital filtering provides transient rejection, drift compensation and temperature compensation before making an alarm decision.
The mode of operation may be selected at the fire control panel.
Anti‑abrasion coated windows improve resistance to physical damage. With the detection region external to the case, the detector is designed for flush mounting and features a very low profile.
The device includes a polycarbonate front plate secured by a grub screw locking mechanism. Three LEDs provide status indication as detailed in Datasheet PP2550.
The Soteria Dimension Optical Detector has been designed and manufactured in the UK using advanced simulation and development processes.
Device Addressing
The device address is set using an 8‑bit DIL switch on the detector head.
Communication
The Soteria Dimension Optical Detector uses Apollo’s digital CoreProtocol, enabling advanced control and configuration while maintaining backward compatibility with Discovery and XP95 systems. For availability of specific features, refer to the fire control panel manufacturer.
Not all features are available when used with Discovery or XP95 fire control panels. If used with XP95 panels incorporating drift compensation algorithms, these must be disabled when communicating with Soteria Dimension Optical Detectors.
Backward Compatibility
The Soteria Dimension Optical Detectors are designed to operate on XP95 and Discovery loops.
Maintenance
For testing and maintenance of SOTERIA® Dimension detectors, use the Solo 365 Smoke Detector Tester equipped with the Solo 372 Adaptor.
