Description
About – The Paxton Net2 Plus 682-528 is a single-door, networkable access control unit designed for modern security systems. Part of the Net2 family, this controller allows centralised management, event reporting, and flexible control over user access. Each unit operates as part of a network but can also function independently, storing events and making decisions locally.
The Net2 Plus connects to the central administration PC via a standard RJ45 plug into a TCP/IP Ethernet network, providing enhanced installation flexibility. It also features an RS485 connection for linking with other Net2 Plus or Net2 Classic control units using a dedicated CAT5 cable. Supporting Paxton and third-party readers, it is a versatile solution for scalable access control installations.
Installation – The unit is housed in a durable plastic cabinet and comes with clearly labelled, colour-coded connections for readers, power supply, and peripherals. It includes a voltage-free relay to switch locks or electrical devices, with support for exit buttons, door contacts, tamper switches, and alarms. Communication to the PC is established via standard TCP/IP, with the controller requiring a fixed/static IP address. Setup and configuration are carried out using the Paxton Net2 Configuration Utility. Diagnostic LEDs near each terminal simplify troubleshooting, while onboard switchable end-of-line resistors eliminate the need for external resistors.
Operation – Once configured, the Net2 Plus instantly receives updates from the central PC, storing them for reliable offline functionality. When a user presents their access token, the unit identifies and verifies permissions, granting or denying access accordingly. This ensures secure, real-time access management across sites of varying scale.
